Behind the brand : part two

Why We Make What We Like

When I first started Whalebone, every decision was mine to make.

The artwork. The colors. The fit. The fabric. Every teeshirt that came off the press reflected exactly what I wanted to wear, because if I wasn't excited to put it on, I couldn't really expect anyone else to be.

That mindset hasn't changed much over the years.

Sure, there are few more people involved today. We have a couple stores and partners who all play an important role in bringing a collection to life — But every season still starts the same way: making something we'd actually want to wear.

We've spent years refining our fabrics, dialing in our fits, and paying attention to the details most people will never notice. Not because anyone asked us to, but because that's the standard we've always wanted to hold ourselves to.

People often ask what makes a Whalebone sweatshirt so soft or why a teeshirt feels different from the last one they bought, and the answer usually isn't one big thing — it's a hundred small decisions, made over and over again, by people who genuinely care.

At the end of the day, the philosophy remains the same: If we wouldn't wear it, we wouldn't make it.
