LUKE LEYS

ROOTS

‘ROOTS’ is a series of photos and stories highlighting friends of Whalebone old and new.

We’re back up in Newport with @thekingslens introducing us to more of Newport's finest.

If you come to Aquidneck Island, It won’t be long till you hear or meet the name Corcoran or Leys. Some say a large family others say perhaps a cult? Who knows really, but today's feature shares both names. Luke Corcoran Leys. @cheezy_leyz. Eighth Generation Newporter, certified rad dad, Newport Fire Fighter and founder of @Leysandco.tents alongside his brother Liam.

How does one get into the tent business you ask? Well for Luke, he takes family business to the next level. As a young grom, Luke learned the ropes from his great Uncle Mike Corcoran’s business Newport Tent, started in 1971 with one of their first clients being the Great Gastby, Newport Tent became one of the largest Tent Production companies in New England. No one in the family escaped without paying their dues on the turf. More action, more banging! After the sale of the family business, Luke decided to continue the legacy on his own. Leys and Co Tents established 2022, born from hard work and a couple back alley deals. Need a 40 wide? Don’t worry, Luke and his 4 siblings are on it. It’s a family thing.

When he’s not juggling his career, side hustles, family, you can also find him ripping the local point as hard as anyone could. Luke is all guts and glory and we’re grateful to have him repping Whalebone. Salute, Luke.
