The Weimars

ROOTS

‘ROOTS’, by Whalebone and James Katsipis, is a series of photos and stories highlighting friends of Whalebone old and new.

For 3 generations, the Weimars have been fishing and surfing in the waters off Montauk. Family Patriarch, Chuck, has been doing so since the 70’s and passed down his love for the water to his son Charlie. Charlie is responsible for influencing a generation of surfers on the East End, always one to push the limits and is still holding the top spot in the pecking order after all these years. Young Chas is learning the ins and outs of the fishing business on the family dragger, the Rianda S, but when the surf turns on, you’ll find him in the water trying to take as many waves as he can from his dad. And as you can tell, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, as Caitlin and Mason can also be found either surfing or running around the docks @inletseafood, just like their family before them.
